We have been farming at South Ardbennie in Perthshire, Scotland, since the 1980s. We grow arable crops – mostly winter wheat, spring barley for malting, and spring field beans.
We’ve also become well known in the area over the past few seasons for The South Ardbennie Farm Pumpkin Patch – people come to the farm from far and wide each October to enjoy some festive fun and pick their own pumpkin for Halloween. There’s always pizza and toasted marshmallows to add to the fun.
Of course we just love our spectacular patch of Perthshire, which has incredible views and a rich diversity of wildlife and bird life. We’re so privileged to live here, and we felt moved to give others the chance to share in our good fortune.
That’s how The Pigsty came about. We commissioned a high-end glamping pod and kitted it out with top of the range furniture and fittings to accommodate visitors. The pod’s shape turned out to be reminiscent of the arks favoured for housing outdoor-reared pigs, so inevitably it became The Pigsty.
From the start we decided that our glamping venture was going to offer the very best accommodation of its type in our region.
We’ve spared no expense, not only on the construction and finish of the cabin itself (which is far larger than the average glamping pod), but we also carefully planned and considered every little detail to ensure the comfort and convenience of our guests.
Luxury fabrics, sumptuous furnishings, a glamorous bathroom, compact well-appointed kitchen – all of it has been selected to provide superior facilities.
Our efforts seem to have been worth-while, because all the guests we’ve hosted at The Pigsty since we opened it up have been full of praise, leaving five-star reviews and ratings on websites like Airbnb and Booking.com.
We’re hoping in the near future we can expand our glamping operation by adding another premium quality cabin so we can welcome more discerning guests. We don’t plan to overcrowd our rural site though, ever mindful that its peace and privacy are part of the magic of staying with us.
It’s Fiona who you will probably have most to do with when you come to stay at The Pigsty. She’s the principal host, handling all the bookings, enquiries and befriending our guests.
Fiona has experience in the tourism and travel sectors, having worked at one time with the former Britannia Airways, and as a chalet host in the Austrian Alps. She’s a mine of information about the local – and wider – area, always happy to point you in the direction of anything you might want to do or see. She’ll also make sure you have everything you need for a superb stay.
Henry – who has agricultural qualifications – is kept busy on the farm, but doubles up as landscape and amenities manager for The Pigsty.
When you need to recharge your batteries and get away from everything – except the good things in life – we’ll take good care of you at The Pigsty. Please get in touch if you have any questions about the location or accommodation, or need any special arrangements or facilities for your stay. We will be happy to help.
